Who we are
Our website address is: https://www.narwhals1935.com.
The Narwhals 1935 website exists to share club history, fixtures, updates and member contributions.
In layman’s terms:
This website belongs to the Narwhals. It’s here to share information about the club and its members.
Members, accounts and contributions
New Narwhals members may choose to create a login to access member-only content such as fixtures and updates.
If members contribute content to the website (such as written pieces, images or updates), all submissions are subject to approval by site administrators before being published.
Once content is approved and uploaded, it becomes the responsibility of the site administrators and may remain on the website even if a member later leaves the club or closes their account. Contributors may be given access to edit their content where appropriate, but final editorial control sits with the administrators.
In layman’s terms:
Members can have a login if they want one. If you submit content, admins check it before it goes live. Once published, the content stays on the site even if you leave, though small edits may be allowed.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
After approval, your profile picture may be visible to the public alongside your comment.
In layman’s terms:
If you leave a comment, we collect basic information to stop spam. If you use Gravatar, your profile image may show next to your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website may be able to download and extract location data from images published on the site.
In layman’s terms:
Please don’t upload photos that reveal where they were taken, as others could see that information.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not have to re-enter your details when leaving future comments. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we set cookies to save your login details and screen preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
If you edit or publish content, an additional cookie may be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and expires after one day.
In layman’s terms:

Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images or articles. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content.
In layman’s terms:
If we embed content from other sites, those sites may collect data just like they would if you visited them directly.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
We do not sell or trade your personal data.
In layman’s terms:
Your data stays with us. We don’t sell it. Some technical information is shared only when needed to keep the site secure.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely to help manage follow-up comments.

Published content contributed by members may remain on the website for historical and archival purposes.
In layman’s terms:
Comments and member content are kept unless there’s a reason to remove them. You can update your own details at any time.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase personal data, except where we are required to keep it for legal or security reasons.
